Adopt-a-Beach

In partnership with NPS the NCBBA has officially adopted Ramp 23 for four beach cleanup operations a year from April to December. Working with the Cape Hatteras National Park Service, we exhibit our ongoing commitment to protect the environment of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational area for everyone to enjoy.

Volunteers from our membership, friends, and family members are needed to help on our four chosen dates of beach cleanup. Each event will be held on a Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 AM at Ramp 23 parking lot.

Volunteers will all need to sign up before heading out on the beach. We anticipate a minimum of 18 beach walkers to cover a designated ½ mile of beach. In addition, 4-5 trucks with a couple pulling a trailer for larger items will be required. We intend to do a clean sweep of all trash, debris, and lumber including burned firewood up the face of the dunes. All trash bags will be taken to the Salvo Day Use Area dumpster and larger items will be left at base of parking lot for the Park Service to haul away.

Adopt-a-Highway

In addition to the beach cleanup, NCBBA has been participating in the North Carolina Adopt-a-Highway program since 1991.

NCBBA is responsible to clean both sides of Highway 12 from the Basnight bridge to ½ mile north of the Ramp 2 entrance. If we have enough volunteers, we pick up to Old Oregon Inlet Road.

For safety reasons this is an adult only event. The AAH events are scheduled four Saturdays a year from April to November.

How to volunteer

The support received from NCBBA members for both programs is appreciated by your elected Officers and Board members. Each event only requires two hours of your time on a Saturday morning. Participation is also a great way to meet new people and establish a sense of fellowship among the members. The dates for beach cleanups are displayed on our Calendar

Signup sheets are included in each of our quarterly newsletters with instructions. Or if you prefer, send your name with member # and which AAB or AAH you can attend to NCBBA, PO Box 189, Nags Head, NC 27959 or you can email [email protected] or [email protected]
